Re-design Rules

First and foremost, we ask that you get permission from the original designer before redesigning any characters. Please follow the designer's rules first; of course, if you are the designer, this doesn't apply.

Redesign basics

When redesigning a character, please keep in mind that redesigns are not intended to completely change a character's design, but to instead tweak them to switch some small things up. This include things like:

  • Small pattern changes
  • Changing the hue overall
  • Changing out or adding in traits

Examples of okay redesigns

Example of changing a trait with an item and a disallowed redesign.

Refer to the examples above when redesigning.

Changing traits

Outside of common traits, all traits require an item to be added. Removing traits is free.
So if you want to add any non-common trait, you'll need to submit an item in with that new art work.

We are aware that not all traits have items for them yet, these will pop up over time. Please stay tuned for more updates!

Character based characters

Sapsidians allows for designs to be based on or inspired by other existing characters, we just have a few rules that need to be followed when doing so.

  • Sapsidians may be based on pre-existing designs that you own, provided that you have permission from the original designer.
  • They may also be inspired by existing media, as long as they are just inspired by or themed after it/them. If a design is too close to the character it’s inspired by, it will be denied. This is up to staff discretion and each design will be judged individually.
  • The work that the character is inspired by must be mentioned for design approval. This can be done in the comment section of MYO submission.
  • Sapsidians may not be based on offensive media, like works by JK Rowling and Vivziepop. This also includes works of dark media and heavily adult content. Feel free to ask about these media in #staff-ask in the server or email hack@sapsidians.com
  • Characters may not be based on media that the owners have stated/asked that CBCs are not made of them.

Example of a CBC that is too close to the original character and one that is okay to submit as a MYO. Based on Dr. Ratio from Honkai: Star Rail.

Guest and Permanent Artists please note: While CBCs are allowed, they can't be made for sale. Exceptions of this rule are:

  • Characters based on the media as a whole and not one character.
  • Fictional animals, like Pokemon, but must be disclosed.
  • Customs for others.

Trait combinations

Traits may be combined with other traits of the same category, but there are a few rules that should be followed when doing so.

  • Fused traits must be of the same category.
  • Hook traits may not be combined outside of adding Hole-ly Hook to another Hook trait.
  • Some traits may not be used with other traits or have to be used with other traits. Please make sure to check the description of the traits you are using to check.
  • Traits may not be fused together in a way to make other existing traits.

The best rule of thumb to follow when fusing traits is that they should work as if layered on top of each other.

Please note that some trait combinations might not be allowed, but as always, feel free to reach out in #staff-ask in the server or email hack@sapsidians.com
